Malawi Thyolo Peony
Region: this
handmade white tea is from the Thyolo region of Malawi where it was developed
by a small tea company called Satemwa with the assistance of our roving
teaman. The entire white tea making
process is gentle and natural taking 3 or 4 days to complete.
For
tasting the tea was steeped in 140ml water at 80⁰C for six minutes.
Leaf: tan to
brown whole leafy shoots with tender stems and silver buds.
Infusion visual:
wrinkled copper coloured whole leaves with some green oolong like patches
Infusion aroma:
a sublime aroma of freshly made tea with high floral notes
Liquor visual: crystal
clear pale apricot liquor
Liquor taste: sweet
clean gently floral taste without even a hint of astringency but with a full
thick mouthfeel heavenly!
Summary: Satemwa
usually produce black tea for teabag blends and amazingly this delicate floral
masterpiece is crafted from the same bushes.
Thyolo Peony would be worth
having just for the aroma of the infused leaf the pure taste of the liquor is
a double bonus.
