Type: Flavoured Red Rooibos: a
mix of red rooibos, rosebuds, safflower petals, peony petals, cherry flavouring,
chilli pods and carrot flakes
For tasting, 2.8 grams of tea was
steeped in 140ml water at 100⁰C in a half size tasting mug for six minutes.
Infusion – aroma:
a powerful wall of aroma hits you as you pour the liquor off the infusion – so
cherry, so rose floral, so almondy (though there’s none in the blend). This one begs to be tasted.
Liquor – visual: a
deep clear intensely burnt orange liquor colour
Liquor – taste: at
first sip on the tongue this one is a pussy cat – so sweet and fruity – but
begin to swallow and the chilli explodes; blasting sweet cherry taste before
it. This could wake Rip Van Winkel.
Summary: this is a most powerful and
unusual drink – anyone who dismisses flavoured rooibos blends as “all tasting
the same” will surely change their mind after tasting Rooibos Chilli Cherry
